Stephen Mashburn is now punked out. We have never seen him at the clinic. We stole this picture from the MTTU.com site
On Wednesday June 19, Mashburn opens up the Godarchy line with a quote from Albert Einstein. The quote is:

"The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it."

Here are a few more quotes from Einstein which Mashburn conveniently omitted:

"A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death."

"It is quite clear to me that the religious paradise of youth, which [I] lost, was a first attempt to free myself from the chains of the 'merely personal,' from an existence which is dominated by wishes, hopes, and primitive feelings."

And as long as we are on the subject of great scientists, here is, perhaps, the single most profound statement my by a human being:

"I do not think it is necessary to believe that the same God who has given us our senses, reason, and intelligence wished us to abandon their use, giving us by some other means the information that we could gain through them."

-- Galileo Galilei

To be fair, we offer an excellent quote from a man of the cloth:

"Theologian: An uncommon individual who, though possessing finite abilities, has been called by God himself who, though possessing infinite abilities, requires the assistance of the former in explaining Himself to the rest of us."

-- "Rev." Donald Morgan

Steve Mashburn writes the daily Godarchy line. On April 5th, 2002 he had this to say:

A few years back, scientists gathered and examined our calendar and clock. They found that our time is off by 24 hours and 15 minutes. "How could this be?" they asked. One scientist remembered this passage and they looked it up together. Some still scoffed saying the Bible could not be true because this still left 15 minutes that were not accounted for. Then another scientist had remembered something about a sun dial from Sunday School as a child. A search of the Scriptures found a second passage accounting for those 15 minutes. Can you name that passage?

We knew this couldn't possibly be true. So we decided to confront him with an Email. Here is the Email. We sent:

In the April 5th column of the Godachy line, it was mentioned that a group of scientists had found evidence which indicated that our time was off by 24:15.

I was very interested in this and I have been trying for the last few weeks to find the study, report or other type of literature on that subject. I keep running into dead ends though. Would you happen to have a reference, the name of one of the people on the team or the name of any literature published on this topic? Thanks.

Then he replied and dropped an intellectual atom bomb on us. He admitted he was wrong. Here is his reply:

As to the lost day, I've been hearing about this for years going back to the early 1990s. I just did some research using WebFerret (a small shareware search program I highly recommend as it uses all the major search engines independent of the web which delivers amazingly fast results that moving your mouse over gives details before clicking to go to that web site) on "the missing day" using all keywords.

For the first time, I found out this story that has been around for more than a century and the author of a book, a contractor with NASA, used some embellishments on the story. For what sounds like a non-Christian's lengthy explanation of this, please go to this web link,
http://www.snopes.com/religion/lostday.htm and read it in full. It is quite interesting as I looked up those Scripture references using Hebrew lexicons again before I wrote that day's GAP Line. Still, this guy who appears to have great doubts as to the infallibility of Scripture has some points. I had no idea this story had any roots prior to 1970 or I would have known this "missing day" story was concocted by some biblical apologists that used unscriptural methods to convince skeptics. I stand rebuked by the evidence.

As the Apostle Paul commanded us by the Holy Spirit, "Prove all things. Hold fast to that which is good." In 1 Thessalonians, I stand guilty of not doing enough investigative study over the years on this apparent urban legend. I love truth and this truly a pleasant discovery except for 1 fact. I unknowingly misled thousands of people. For this I am truly sorry. "Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you." (Proverbs 9:8) and "Strike a scoffer and the naive may become shrewd, But reprove one who has understanding and he will gain knowledge." (Proverbs 19:25)

I am so thankful that you were persistent in writing me asking about some documentation on this very intriguing but errant story. It forced me to do more research and I was able to discover my error. Now you can expect to see much of this in a future Godarchy Line special edition. You get the preview. If you have any additional insights or comments, please send them. I will likely prepare a special correction for distribution Tuesday morning Lord willing. You are the only person to write about this to me.

Evidently, there are many that like I, have heard of this before in periodicals and other sources in church and accepted it. You are to be commended. There is much about this story that makes it easy and very desirable to believe.

This link, http://www.ibri.org/joshua.htm from Biblical Theological Seminary explains a little more from a Christian perspective. I recommend you give it a read also. As you can see, I didn't even recall the story correct as it is not 24:15 but making up for an alleged hour and 20 minutes. When I make a mistake, as in all things, I go all out.

To date, there has never been a correction published on the Godarchy line.

Quotes form the Godarchy Line
Here are some quotes taken right out of the Godarchy line. Our comments are in red.

Early on, pregnancy has the effect of boosting a woman's blood volume significantly in order to fuel her baby's growth. Getting pregnant 2 or 3 months before an event such as cross-country skiing or cycling then killing the child by abortion can give this same 10 percent performance enhancement. (02/13/2002).

We must force them to define the presupposition of whether the decriminalized murder of unborn children is a private or a public matter. If the murder of an unborn child is a private matter, they must admit that the murder of born children is also a private matter.(06/17/2002) well brainiac, an abortion is not a murder because a fetus is not a person.

More to come...
