Landwehr Fails the Challenge

In today's Wichita Eagle Brenda Landwehr (Republican for Wichita's 91st District) touted her support for a voter ID bill. She claimed such a bill was necessary to prevent people from voting twice in an election.

So I sent her an e-mail asking her if she could provide one example in Kansas of someone voting twice. This was her response:

"I appreciate you taking the time to contact me. First off it is not my proposal. The provision is in a conference committee report that has several items dealing with voter reform and voter ID happens to be one of them. There are several exemptions for individuals allowed and multiple forms of identification that can be used. These provisions have eased the concern about creating any inconvenience on an individual to vote.

I think it is important to make sure that our voting system is protected and rises to a level where the potential for fraud can never be an issue. Voting is a privilege that should be protected and cherished.

Showing our identification has become part of our daily lives. We show our ID to cash checks, use our credit cards, purchase cigarettes, alcohol etc. Why should this important procedure be any different?

Thanks,
Brenda"

So she couldn't point to one example, and even made excuses saying that it wasn't her bill. Contrary to what she thinks voting is not on par with buying cigarettes or alcohol. I can go through my life without cigarettes, alcohol, using credit cards and checks but voting is the only opportunity I have to participate in chosing a representative for government.

Let's see this for what it really is, it's merely another Republican effort to discourage people from going to the polls. One year, while going door to door in the ghetto to get people to vote I ran into one woman who wasn't planning on voting because she didn't have a driver's license. I informed her she didn't need one to vote. Upon hearing that news she went out to vote. Now, if Brenda has her way, that woman will have to stay home and vote. That's well and good for Brenda because the woman was Black and lived in a poor part of the community so she'd probably end up voting for the Democratic party based upon demographic data. Is it no wonder that the Republican party worked so hard in erasing votes from tens of thousands of Black voters in Florida in 2000?

Brenda says voting is a privilage, and she wants to revoke the privilage. Sorry Brenda, but voting is a right, it's a freedom provided to us in our Constitution and you have no authority in taking that right away.

UPDATE:

After I received a response from Brenda I sent out the challenge to two other Republican House members who support the bill proposing the challenge to present one case of a person voting twice in the state of Kansas. Those two were Lance Kizner and Virginia Beamer. The two couldn't provide one example either. One racist keeps on e-mailing me insisting he has evidence but hasn't been able to provide an example in the state of Kansas. The fascists just love their bigger government and voter repression. It reminds them of the old Jim Crow days.

Tiahrt, Cop Killer

Mayors Against Illegals Guns has put out a video attacking Tiahrt's Amendment, the Tiahrt Amendement, in an effort to return to Clinton era measures that reduced gun violence and reduced the homocide rate. The video to the right was presented at the website protectpolice.org and how Tiahrt's law put the lives of police and everyone in danger.

The most egregious part of the bill withdrew the requirement that small sized gun dealers don't need a license to operate. So essentially some guy selling handguns out of the back of his van doesn't need a license but your local hair stylist needs a license to cut your hair. Which one weilds the most dangerous tool?

The Tiahrt Amendment was strongly backed by the National Rifle Association who gives Tiahrt an A rating in addition to nearly $7000 in the last election cycle (and nearly $7500 the previous election cycle).

The claim is that it is intended to protect gun owner privacy. Tiahrt displayed his respect for privacy by being an advocate of the Patriot Act which would allow the government to search your house without a warrent provided they pin up a note telling you your house had been searched, as well as allowing the government to examine which books you check out at the library. Tiahrt thinks that's okay but that any background search for a gun purchase must be destroyed within 24 hours and no gun crime or gun trace data may be shared with other agencies. What's more dangerous, some guy with a Harry Potter book or with an assault rifle?

Recently 32 students were slaughtered at the Virginia Tech campus by a fellow student. Could it have been possible for the university to request from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms data on which students owned firearms? Many universities strive for a gun free campus to prevent replays of Columbine and the clock tower shooting at the University of Texas in Austin. Under the Tiahrt Amendment the university could not request that information even though 32 deaths could have been prevented.

How many people died because of Tiahrt's legislation? How does he still call himself pro-life after taking bribes to write legislation that makes it easier for criminals to possess guns? The Maggot Punks respect privacy and we are all owners of firearms. However, I don't see it as a excessive violation of my privacy to have gun dealers to have a license or for my gun trace data to be in a database for 90 days instead of 24 hours. Tiahrt's Amendment is irresponsible and displays his disregard for the safety of Sedgwick County. Overturn his law then vote him out of office and perhaps a future mass murder like the one at Virginia Tech can be prevented.

Gietzen, In More Trouble

The Maggot Punks filed a request for an investigation into Mark S. Gietzen's questionable reports concerning his filings for his runs for the Kansas Senate. In 2004 and 2006 Gietzen ran for the 28th Senate seat. Thankfully he lost both times because the Kansas Congress has enough crazies and doesn't need another Brunk or Wagle providing more insanity. According to documents retrieved from the Sedgwick County Election Commissioners office Gietzen may have made improper claims on his 'receipts and expenditures reports'.

It appears to be an amazing coincidence that for both election cycles Gietzen made exactly $4,735.52 in transactions on the exact same dates at the exact same printing locations and recorded all this in the exact same handwriting.

Filing in 2007

Filing in 2006

So what's with the questionable filings? Perhaps it has to do with Gietzen's financial troubles. Gietzen owes nearly $1900 in back taxes. If a certain person sends a letter to the Sedgwick County treasurer about Gietzen's tax deliquency and how Gietzen owns a lovely Cessna that can be foreclosed on then Gietzen can have a serious headache in his future. Kansas law states that Gietzen can be fined up to $5000 for filing false election documents. Oh well.

Here's the response I received from the Governmental Ethics Commission:

"We are in receipt of your letter concerning the campaign finance reports filed by Mark Gietzen, candidate for Senate District #28 in the 2004 election cycle.

Mr. Gietzen has been carrying a balance in his campaign account of $13.01 since December 31, 2001. He has also been carrying the same debt of $4,735.52 since December 31, 2001. Mr. Geitzen is not permitted to terminate his Senate campaign until all debts are either paid or forgiven. Until he terminates, Schedule D, which reflects the $4,735.52 in debt must continue to show to whom he owns money. The dates indicated on that schedule will never change.

When Mr. Gietzen ran for the Senate again in 2004, he filed an Affidavit of Exemption. In the 2000 election, he filed actual receipts and expenditures reports. An Affidavit of Exemption is filed when a candidate does not anticipate taking in or spending more than $500 in the primary or $500 in the general election. This office has no reason to believe that he did not comply with the affidavit limits during the 2004 election cycle. Since Mr. Gietzen’s debt does not allow him to terminate, he was required to file the January 10, 2006 and January 10, 2007 reports. He is still carrying the same $13.01 in his account and the same debt of $4,735.52.

If you have specific information that would indicate these reports are inaccurate, please provide this office with such information."

Apparently Gietzen just runs around spending money with no recourse. He owes people money all over town. Despite owing people thousands of dollars he had no problem finding money to donate to Operation Rescue's PAC to fight against Attorney General Paul Morrision.

It's Nearly Tax Time

All of the Maggot Punks paid their taxes this year but we can't say the same for the antis. Again we'll look back a few of the antis we've been reporting on who have not been paying their taxes. Have things

changed over the year? Kinda, but mostly not.

Our first pick is the disgraced self-proclaimed Reverend Terry Fox. Kicked out of Immanuel Baptist for stealing church funds to pay for his money losing radio show he set up shop as a side show at Wild West World. Recently in the news he reported raising a shitload of money to buy up a bunch of property near WWW. He bought some money by the Greyhound Race Track where he can employ a Christian psychologist (someone who calls themselves a psychologist but with no actual training as a real psychologist, hence the Christian disclaimer). He wants to combat gambling although he supports Republican politicians who receive thousands in campaign contributions from gambling companies.

So this moral crusader is rolling in the cash, so that must mean he's being moral in paying his share into the pot right? Nope. Terry Fox still has a tax bill of $1318.26, over $100 more than last time. Perhaps he happened to overlook that passage where Jesus said to "Render unto Caesar what's Caesar's." Oh wait, that would actually imply that he cares what his Jesus says. My mistake.

Also on the tax cheat screen is a favorite of the Punks, Mark S. Gietzen. I confronted Mark about this once and he said he was working on it. Good thing he wasn't building the Hoover
Dam because at this rate he'd have about five bricks put in place. Ol' Gietzen owes 1886.28, that's another $100 in interest you racked up there buddy. Perhaps you were waiting for Jesus to return so you wouldn't have to pay anything. He'll come around about the same time we pay $1 for a gallon of gasoline again.
Keith Mason rounds out the three. You might remember Keith, he likes to attack elderly men then file charges against them for getting in the way of his fists. Well Keith has actually paid off some of his debts. This is surprising

because Keith is a dick, maybe his wife actually yelled at him to do something other than travelling with Troy and hanging out at truck stops. The Masons actually paid off $300 of their tax bill. I wonder if it helped that I wrote a note to Ron Estes about the Masons owning a big $100,000 home and that he should forclose on their house? Maybe, but Ron doesn't tell me these things.

In case you missed the big story about political corruption involving City Councilwoman Sue Schlapp (Republican), and Rep. Todd Tiahrt's staff members (all Republican) that cost the Wichita taxpayers $2.1 million dollars;check it out.
