Tiahrt Team Robs Wichita

One news outlet in Wichita reported on the sweet deal where Sue Schlapp (R-rich ass part of Wichita) presided over a land deal where the City of Wichita would give away a piece of land valued at $2.5 million for a mere $400,000. Sue remarked it was necessary to get rid of some property that nobody wanted alongside the Kellogg/Woodlawn intersection, one of the busiest areas in town. Is this really the case?

There's an interesting mix of fellows involved in this deal which cost Wichita taxpayers over $2 million dollars. The history of the story goes back to the Kellogg expansion project where the city paid $12.5 million for property owned by the Church of the Magdalene.

It was the fair market value and was a necessary purchase (plus it helped relieve traffic during those Sunday mornings where the Christians were allowed to block traffic during service, the rest of us would get tickets.)

What remained was the school portion which, until the sale, had been leased out. However the Heartland Community Church wanted to expand and put a bid on the property and got it. So where's the outrage?

Heartland Community Church is where Troy Newman attends but oddly enough he wasn't involved in this scheme, however other members of his church were. The person involved in the deal was George

Bruce who is listed on the paperwork as the church's trustee. Bruce is also a church elder and Tiahrt's campaign manager.

Approving of the sale is Sue Schlapp who happens to have a son that was Tiahrt's chief of staff. His name is Matt Schlapp. Matt made some news when he was involved in the staged protest outside the Florida recount office in 2000. Thousands of African-American voters had been denied their right to vote and Schlapp demanded their votes not be counted. As a result of his service he was promoted to Bush's deputy director of political affairs. Now he serves with Koch Industries who happens to be a major donor to Tiahrt.

"I have learned more than a decade ago, when I worked for Congressman Tiahrt, the value of honest public service. Koch Industries understands this service." Schlapp said in a press release. Now he works as Koch's federal liason. Koch has good ties with the Bush regime since Bush helped reduce millions of fines Koch had to pay for illegally polluting our nation.

Back to the story though. It is apparent that the robbing of the Wichita taxpayer has to do with the Good ol' Boy network. Simply put, George Bruce (who has donated thousands to Tiahrt's campaign) uses his connections with the church, Tiahrt's office and Sue Schlapp's position on the Wichita City Council to save his church millions of dollars. Was Tiahrt aware of this? It's hard to tell but there is reason to believe that the Schlapp family played a role. Sue's son works for Tiahrt, and Sue and Tiahrt serve on the Wichita Chamber of Commerce together. These deals made in dark, smoky rooms are nothing new to Republicans who like to label themselves as fiscally conservative.

Guess who gets to foot the bill?

HB 2292 Shelved

In another victory for defenders of freedom HB 2292 was shelved for this legislative session. As one congressman reported to the Maggot Punks, "We decided the bill should not be addressed this session -- due to several problems with the language and in general with the concept of the bill itself." Since the antis are often unwilling to compromise in their fascist desires to create a theocracy it's doubtful enough changes will be made to pass the bill.

HB 2292 is a coy effort to designate a fetus as a fully developed human being. Since the antis believe a fully developed human being occurs when a sperm fertilizes an egg a human occurs at the moment of conception. Then that human resides in the womb spending 9 months reading newspapers, surfing the internet and binging on cigarettes and coffee. Remember, the antis are the same people who thought Teri Schiavo could get out of bed an become a line dancer in a Vegas casino, and the planet was created 6,000 years ago, on a Tuesday, at 9:03 in the morning. In other words they aren't the sort of people you go to for heart surgery.

Pro Kan Do led a letter and call in effort to level headed congresspeople (i.e. not Steven Brunk) to oppose this bill. The Maggot Punks were happy to help in this effort.

The antis aren't honest, this bill is an example. Clearly it's an effort to criminalize all abortion (and the antis view all contraception as abortion) but they market it as a means to discourage crime by allowing murderers of pregnant women to be charged with double homicide. However, the Kansas legislature viewed the language of the bill and realized it had nothing to do with protecting the lives of pregnant women but had the sole purpose of establishing a fetus as a person. This merely proves, once again, that when an anti tells you something you should verify their claims with real facts and never take their word for anything.

Oh Mother!

Mother Jones Magazine is a respected investigative reporting magazine that is marketed to a progressive audience. For years they have produced informative, well-researched articles. So I was shocked the day I received my copy in the mail and the first story I turned to was about the violent domestic terrorist, Troy Newman and his terrorist organization Operation Rescue™, and saw the numeorus errors contained in the article.

The mistakes are many so I may not manage to get them all. The focus of the story has to do with Troy's claim that he bought the Central clinic and that he shut down the business. The story goes on to say that there's a connection between Troy's Operation Rescue™ and Randall Terry's Operation Rescue. Well let's just go by the errors one by one.

The author's main error is taking Troy Newman at his word. Troy's a professional liar. His first lie is contained in the second article where he claims that he bought the clinic and shut it down. Troy never bought the clinic, the money was provided by Allison White, daughter of Jeff White (Troy's former leader for Operation Rescue California). Such is what the legal documents mention, Troy or OR's name isn't mentioned on the property deed.

One doesn't need to go far to find out that Troy lied, simply go to Troy's website and read the article where Troy says Cheryl was surprised to find out that the clinic was sold to an undisclosed buyer and was selling off the equipment. If Troy was the buyer then the buyer wouldn't be undisclosed. The landlord, without an occupant later sold the empty building to Allison White so there wasn't a business to shut down.

The second error is contained in the same paragraph where it's said that Troy's

group "laid siege to it for more than 15 years". Troy has been in town since 2002. Randall Terry came here once in 1991 with his Operation Rescue and a small band of antis affiliated with him stayed on but they changed their name to Operation Save America. On their website they said that they have nothing to do with Troy's group and Troy simply bought the Operation Rescue URL and trademarked the name. The Maggot Punks have one video of Troy's "seige" where he just sits in his truck because it's too cold outside. So when the article goes on to say that Troy's group organized Terry's huge protest in Wichita in 1991 that's an error. Troy wasn't even in the organization back then.

The author did successfully debunk one of Troy's often used lies. Troy lies when he says a garbage disposal in a sink has the sole purpose of disposing of fetal remains. Millions of homes and businesses have garbage disposals, even Troy said on his website that the brand in question is common in homes. So when a manager for an abortion clinic in Kansas City was asked about it he was surprised about Troy's stupidity and responded that garbage disposals are common and were probably there when the clinic first opened up. Troy's "evidence" that the disposal was for fetuses came from Norma McCorvey, who had never set foot in the clinic as is as much of an expert on garbage disposals as I am on Latin dance styles (well I did take one class so I'm more of an expert than McCorvey).

The antis separation from reality can be seen in the statements made by Bob Burnison working at the clinic who thinks the place is haunted by demons and Troy's desire to see an exorcism performed on the clinic. Troy can keep reality as straight as he can keep his lies straight, in other words, not at all. Sadly Mother Jones Magazine continues promoting Troy's false lies as many in the media have done. The Maggot Punks is the only source that has made the 10 minutes of efforts to find out who really bought the business and who really bought the empty building.
