July 15, 2006 The Facts Behind the Sale |
Back in May the Central Clinic shut down, the business was sold and the building was vacated. Here at the Maggot Punks we knew of the closing before the moving crew took the equipment out of the building. We knew who the buyer was, the reason for the sale and we knew that Operation Rescue West had nothing to do with it. Those who didn't know the facts were ORW and the Wichita Eagle, the two groups that made the most noise about the sale. And like ignorant loud mouths they were quite vocal about the way they wanted the story presented irregardless of the actual facts behind the situation. So now we will present the facts that only one newspaper in Kansas, the Kansas City Star reported accurately. Dr. Tiller bought the clinic on Central street, like he had bought the clinic on Market street many years prior. It was a business decision. The owners of the Central clinic liked the offer and knew the patients would still receive services. While the Central Clinic had no problem paying the rent on the building they had a problem with securing a doctor. Their current doctor was from out of town and their previous doctor quit due to ailing health. ORW claimed the closing of the business was due to an inability to pay the rent, that's something they just made up. ORW has no facts to back up any of their claims but lying is not forbidden in their religion. Continuing with the lies ORW claimed they had shut down the clinic. That's a direct contradiction to what they had claimed earlier. ORW tells so many lies they have difficulty keeping them straight. However Dion Lefler at the Wichita Eagle was more than happy to help them spread the lie. Lefler is known for his shoddy journalistic standards by only reporting one side of the story without looking into the facts. Thankfully the Kansas City Star presented the facts of the story. The Eagle presented an edited version of this AP story that intentionally left out the actual reasons behind the sale and the interview with the former owner of the clinic. In the latest story the actual buyer of the clinic is named. Although ORW claimed they bought the clinic the actual buyer is Allison White, the daughter of Jeff White, the former ORW leader. The Maggot Punks reported the actual buyer of the clinic on July 2nd, the Eagle finally caught up to us 12 days later. The lies of ORW didn't stop with the sale of the clinic, they continued after they moved in. ORW made claims that the clinic was filthy and put babies through the garbage disposal. Of course ORW has no credible evidence for this. Apart from some pictures of dirt left underneath a refrigerator and a sanitizing machine that was bolted to the ground, there was no sign the business was filthy. Not many people make it a point to clean underneath their refrigerator and no abortion clinic performs medical procedures in the break room. Other "evidences" was an empty mouse trap (if it was filthy there would be a mouse dead in it). Every business is required by law to have pest prevention measures such as traps in the building so this is just evidence that the clinic was following law. Another was a cockroach that ORW claims was there while the business was in operation. Of course ORW wasn't there at the time and it could have entered while the doors were open in the process of moving. As for the baby disposal, that claim was made by Norma McCorvey, a woman who was never in the clinic and doesn't even reside in Kansas. However she was a featured guest at a White Supremacist convention. Apparently her insight claims that the combination of household cleaners under a sink with a garbage disposal attached is evidence of baby disposal. Many households throughout the nation have garbage disposals and keep cleaners under the sink. Troy Newman has no evidence for such claims. The real shame is all the media attention that is given to this extremist. He makes absurd claims which he has no evidence for and the media simply reports this as fact without question. |
