Operation Rescue West and Troy Newman lie often, that's not news and normally we don't report on their frequent abuse of the facts. However, sometimes it gets so patently absurd that it just deserves comment lest someone actually believe they are telling the truth. In their latest plea for money they are taking credit for a few results which they had nothing to do with. First I'll deal with the simple one, that they were involved in the closing of an abortion clinic in Kansas City. While the activities of an anti-abortion group was substantial in getting this clinic shut down ORW had nothing to do with it. Kansans for Life is the organization that gathered the evidence and presented that evidence to a legal body. ORW remained clueless until these facts were brought out but simply rode on the bandwagon trying to take credit for that work. Not that we really care who did it but it's just a primary example of how Troy Newman likes to operate.

Troy and ORW often claim their actions have resulted in the closing of abortion clinics. Not one clinic has shut down because of ORWs actions. Even the clinic that Cheryl Sullenger (ORW's explosives expert) tried to bomb didn't shut down. So far ORW has a success rate of 0%, that's even lower than D-cubed's chances of getting laid at an all-female school for blind nypmhos. Alas, ORW's latest claim is they are responsible for the 8% drop in abortions in Kansas since they arrived here from California (where they had been equally unsuccessful).

Their claim is a perfect example of statistical manipulation, or perhaps they lack of understanding of statistics. It's not a wild claim to suggest that none of ORW's staff actually went to college much less excelled in high school. Michelle Herzog does teach others though, those others happen to be dogs but it's a step up from teaching Sunday school. That's not to say all FFF don't go to college. We happen to know that one prominent member of Operation Save America went to college. He is Scott Heldreth, but he just went to find underage girls to abduct and rape. Speaking of rape let's examine how ORW plays priest to the statistical altar boy.

ORW got their figures from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment which did reveal an 8% drop in abortions from 2002 to 2005. ORW is trying to make the connection that when they arrived in Kansas abortions dropped simply by the radiance of disgust they vomited with their mere presence. One could also say that ORW is responsible for an outbreak of mumps during that same period when the number of cases was 2 in 2002 and 48 in 2006. Therefore ORW caused an outbreak of mumps. This is simply called correlational data where two figures are compared to each other but neither variable affects the other. This is unlike causational data where one variable influences the other variable. ORW would like to say they are the variable which causes the decrease in abortions but there is no evidence of that.

If ORW's claim is true, that they were responsible for the drop of abortions, we should expect to see a consistent rise in abortion through 2001. The number of abortions in 2002 was 11,844, however the number of abortions in 2001 was 12,422, 2000 was 12,327, but the lowest number was in 1987 with 6,409. So we could claim that since ORW came to Kansas the abortion rate increased 164%. That's simply selective data mining to get the results you want.

If there's anything we're certain of is that ORW and Troy Newman lie and they lie often. Oh yes, they are probably responsible for the mumps outbreak too.
