Troy’s Charge to WichitaDecember 2, 2001Dear Troy, My charge to you, first and foremost, is to follow hard after Christ no matter how treacherous your way or how few your friends. Make it your habit and your course to be in God’s Word daily, remembering, “Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doorway.” Proverbs 8:34. God promises certain truths will be imparted only to those who diligently seek Him. Second, you must guard your heart (if left alone it only leads to wickedness), for it is only the pure in heart that shall see God. Does that mean that your heart must be sinless? No, the heart is wicked – it is inherently sinful and has lead many astray. Follow Jesus, not your heart. When you sin, get it before the Lord. He loves a broken and contrite heart. It is to this kind of heart that our Lord will impart his wisdom. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Matthew 5:8. Pure hearts are not sinless hearts, but ones realizing their own inherent sinfulness and helplessness to ward off satan and his temptations. Pure hearts are those depending wholly upon God to fight both the battles from within and without. “But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son, purifies us from all sin.” 1 John 1:17. Note here, that this verse does not imply that we walk in “sinless perfection,” it states that we walk in the light. I can walk in the light and still stumble (sin) here and there, but the blood of Jesus keeps me blameless. The blood of Christ keeps me walking in the light. I simply confess that He is right and that I am wrong. As I do this I become, daily, more aware of my desperate need for Him in my life. This faith is pleasing to the Lord and, as I grow in Him, I become more like Him. Love your wife! “nuff” said. Raise your children in the fear, admonitions, and wisdom of the Lord. Go to Wichita with a desire to lay your life down for the saints who are there desiring to see child killing come to an end in the city of Wichita and our nation. Your servant leadership will be an example for many to emulate in the years to come. Remember always that we are dealing with a Gospel issue and that we will fight with no other weapons than 1. The blood of the lamb (if one is not a born-again believer, he will do you little good in the short run and much harm in the long run). 2. The Word of our testimony (the Word of God and what he has done in our own lives must be an integral part of our ministry in the streets). 3. Not loving our own lives so much as to shrink from death (submission-the Biblical, volitional kind not Islamic subjection, jail, ill-repute, threats, divisions, death, are all a part of following hard after Christ). Employ these and you will do well. Be a blessing to those great saints in Wichita. Several have been fighting this battle for longer than you and I put together. Honor them with your words and with your life as they see the role of Godly submission in your own life. Be creative, always keeping in mind, that it is what you do for Christ that will last. What you do in Wichita, how you bring the battle to the gate of hell, how theology becoming biography in the streets of our cities can bring an end to abortion (not just abortions), will be a proto type for other cities to implement. Your work means a great deal to those of us who seek to extend our heavenly Father’s Kingdom on this earth. Our eyes are upon you. Give ‘em heaven. Study hard to show yourself approved! In Christ, Flip |
