"My grandfather was raised right here in Columbus, Ohio. So I'm here to ask that you send a homeboy back to Washington, D.C." --George W. Bush, Columbus, OH Sept. 1, 2004.

His granddaddy Prescott Bush also helped finance the Nazi empire and used slave labor in the Nazi Death Camps. So if Bush is a 'homeboy' from Columbus because his granpappy was, then I suppose he's a jackbooted, Nazi, traitor to our country for arming the enemy to kill our boys, fascist.

Can Anti-Abortion Organizations Be Trusted With Your Money?

The rhetoric of the anti-abortionists is that they promote positive values and responsibility while the pro-choicers are greedy, baby killers who are in the business to make money. Let’s ignore the fact that the cost of delivering a baby is often 10 times more expensive than abortion and doctors like Dr. Tiller reduced the cost of abortion from $2,000 (when they were performed at Wesley Medical) to $400-500. Instead let’s look and compare pro-choice organizations management of resources with anti-choice organizations. If the Antis are correct their organizations should have higher ratings for their charities than pro-choice organizations. For this analysis we’ll go to Charity Navigator. This organization analyzes all 501(c)(3) organizations and ranks them according to their qualities.

For this study the anti-choice organizations we’ll look at are: Concerned Women For America, Priests for Life, Operation Rescue West, American Life League, Life Issues Institute and Human Life International. The pro-choice organizations we’ll analyze are The Alan Guttmacher Institute, Catholics for a Free Choice, Center for Reproductive Rights, the ACLU, and Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice Educational Fund.

First off is Operation Rescue West. Oops, they are not listed among the 501(c)(3) organizations. That’s odd, they claim they are one on their website. Well, I suppose it’s safe to conclude anyone engaging in tax fraud wouldn’t score a very high score.

Next is Concerned Women for America. CWFA scored a zero rating. The Charity Navigator rates the charities from a zero to a four rating with four being the highest. CWFA got the absolute lowest score. The reason for this being CWFA uses 42 cents of every dollar for fund raising. Most organizations never use more than 10 cents for every dollar. CWFA is operating in the hole. They lost nearly a million dollars last year and their assets are a negative $112,000. Despite being in debt their head CEO pulled a salary of $130,000. That’s pretty good pay for being such a poor charity.
The American Life League did a little better with a one star rating. They only used 16 cents for every dollar fundraising but 12.3% of all their expenses went to line the pockets of the administration and the organization lost a little over a half a million dollars last year.

Human Life International shared in the one star rating with 14 cents of every dollar going towards fund raising. Their president took a meager salary of $20,000 and they actually pulled in a small profit of $31,500. So they did an alright performance but the charity has shown a steady decline of revenue for the past five years.
The Life Issues Institute also got a one star rating. This is a fairly small organization only pulling in a half a million in revenue. Despite the small amount of revenue the president got a whopping $61,500 salary which is 10.26% of all the organization’s functional funds. The organization uses 22 cents of every dollar in fundraising and lost $106,000 last year.

Priests for Life got the best score out of all the Antis with a massive two star rating. PFL used 23 cents for every dollar fundraising and the organization lost nearly $200,000 last year. That didn’t stop the president from pulling in a $99,000 salary. The organization is on the verge of bankruptcy with only $126,000 in assets. Maybe the administration will have to cut back on the 14% of all the organizational funds they put in their pocket.

The average score for anti-choice charities is a one star rating. Despite the claims that the anti-choicers are in the majority their organizations seem to do a piss poor job of getting funding and are quick to spend that money and put themselves into debt. Judging by the amount of money they spend on fundraising it appears that the organizations were created more to raise funds than actual charity work.

Now let’s look at and equal number of pro-choice organizations. On the top of the list is the Alan Guttmacher Institute with the highest possible four star rating. Six cents of every dollar went to raising funds, absolutely no anti-choice charity got that low. This allowed 73% of all funds to be used for charitable purposes The organization did lose a third of a million dollars but seeing that they have over $20 million in assets they can financially weather any small loss in revenue.

Catholics for a Free Choice ranked slightly lower with a three star rating. Only five cents of every dollar went towards fundraising leaving 87% of resources available for charity work. The organization made a profit of $627,000 last year which adds to their large war chest of $10 million in assets.

The Center for Reproductive Rights also got a three star rating. Of the pro-choice organizations this was the worst performing. Fourteen cents of every dollar went to fundraising, 14% went to administrative costs, the organization lost $1.3 million dollars last year and the president pulled a whopping salary of $393,000. Seeing that this organization deals largely in legal issues it may be expected that higher expenses are accrued during an anti-woman administration so more money is needed to defend the freedom of women.

The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Rights earned the highest possible four star score. They only used nine cents for every dollar fundraising allowing 79% of their funds to be used for charity. The organization saw a huge growth rate of nearly 19% over last year providing a profit of $2.3 million for last year.

The ACLU Foundation followed with the highest four star rating. Only six cents of every dollar went to fundraising. While 15% of their resources went to administrative costs I suppose it isn’t surprising since the ACLU has a lot of attorneys on their staff. Needless to say their head of staff’s salary was only $160,000 which was less than 1% of the organization’s total revenue. The ACLU made a profit of $25 million last year. I assume a lot more people have been donating to the ACLU since the Bush regime got into office because the growth rate of the ACLU is 11%.

The average rating of pro-choice organizations is 3.6 stars so it’s safe to conclude that the pro-choice organizations are not only more successful it’s a sign that they have more support from the community and are more fiscally responsible than the anti-choice organizations. The anti-choice organizations spend a lot more to raise money so they use much less funds in actually doing the charity work they claim to do.
