Two years ago Spunky Flasher and D-cubed were among a dozen members of Kansas Atheists to protest the self-proclaimed Vice President's visit to Wichita. Dick Cheney, back then, came to get money from morons in Wichita. Once again Cheney has come to the Air Capital of America to, well, to get more money. The Republican politicians have little use for Wichita except for some extra cash. There is no concern for employment, the environment, education or anything else. Unless a huge tornado wipes out 10,000 people we should only get another politician here for another fundraiser.

This year the protest against Cheney visit for cash was much larger. Mr. Zero and D-cubed were accompanied by over 100 other pro-democracy, pro-America supporters who wanted to express their disdain for Cheney and the party of greed. A large number of the people were Mennonites from North Newton. From what I've learned is the police don't like to mess with the Mennonites so this year we weren't corralled into a "free speech" zone away from the hotel. This time we were allowed to stand on the side walk so people going to the hotel could actually see our signs.

The media paid attention this time taking photos of the signs and interviewing some of the protestors. There was a lone Bush supporter who claimed to be a Vietnam veteran. Perhaps he was a veteran just like Bush who went AWOL from the National Guard. Anyone who actually served in Vietnam couldn't have enjoyed it so much that they are proud that other Americans are getting slaughtered in Iraq so Halliburton and other Cheney allies could make billions. Cheney, like Bush did all they could to avoid going to Vietnam but have no problem sending other people to die so they could get richer.

When we talked to him he said that he really appreciates what W has done for our nations military. We pressed him for examples but he couldn't think of anything off the top of his "head". Perhaps we was referring to the elimination of the death benefit for military families or maybe he was talking about the cut in hazardous duty pay for soldiers fighting his illegal war. He was probably talking about the cut in military health benefits.

The day was rather uneventful because the police, for the

most part, allowed us to have our First Amendment rights. When a group of us did a mass crossing of the street to get on the forbidden sidewalk (sidewalks are still public property unless the Bush regime says so) we were told to move because it is private property of the Wichita Hyatt.

The problem is that this is a lie. The Hyatt is owned by the City of Wichita, well at least the lease is. The Wichita taxpayers shelled out $2.5 million in corporate welfare to bail out a company that had mismanaged the Hyatt. If the Hyatt is truly private property then the Wichita taxpayers should demand their money back. At the time the mayor of Wichita was corporate whore (see Republican) Bob Knight. The city mayor is now corporate whore Carlos Mayans (illegal immigrant now loved by Republicans because he says massah whenever he sees rich white folk) so don't expect to see any end of these welfare handouts to the rich.

The peaceful gathering of concerned citizens and robbed taxpayers ended about 6:30.
